What was your inspiration for this novel/series/multi series?

I was inspired to write It’s All Magic to Me by my love for magical girl stories, nail polish, and a general desire to be able to create a heroine who I could relate to. Willow comes from a multicultural background not too different from my own; she balances schoolwork, friends, and family along with her magic training. She cares deeply about the people in her life and understands that she’s far from perfect but still strives to do her best.

What got you interested in writing?

Books, so many books, I was a huge reader as a kid and as far back as I can remember I’ve wanted to write my own books.

We’re any of the characters in your book or books based on a real person?? If so who?

Willow’s Grandfather is based partially on my own on my mother’s side, he was a very important person to me and is the one I dedicated ‘It’s All Magic To Me’ to. Miri, Willow’s best friend, is also vaguely based on my own best friend who has always been a huge support to me.

What would you say the hardest part of writing is?

Finishing a project and building the habit of writing regularly.

What is your hope for this novel/series/multi-series?

I hope people enjoy it, and that readers can find themselves immersed in the story. I hope people can find themselves in Willow, that they might see a small part of themselves in her, that they find her relatable.

What movies if any inspired you to write this?

Anime movies; specifically magical girl movies like the Sailor Moon series.

Did you have anthropomorphic creatures in any of your published works?

Yes; Sphynx, Biscuit, and Marlow.

Yes; Sphynx, Biscuit, and Marlow who are all cats; Sphynx is an Abyssinian, Biscuit is a Tabby Cat, and Marlow is a Chartreux.

If these characters are pivotal to your plot why did you choose to make the character a “talking creature/animal/etc”

Sphynx is extremely pivotal to the plot, and I don’t think the story would be the same without Biscuit and Marlow. I didn’t really choose specifically to make them talking cats, when I came up with the story idea I just instinctively knew the cats would be able to talk and would be the central users of magic within the world/magic system I was creating. In part, I think that’s because cats just have this mystical energy to them already and strong associations with witchcraft and magic across history and media.
