Hail to you Mothers, mortal and breathing,
Hail to you Mothers, immortal, divine.
Hail to you, Disir of our kinfolk,
Hail to your womb, the wellspring of life.
Many have come and many will follow,
Passing the sacred mystery on,
Gift of our living through generations,
Gift of our loving, mother to child.
Hail to you Mothers, mortal and breathing,
Hail to you Mothers, immortal, divine.
Hail to you, Disir of our kinfolk,
Hail to your womb, the wellspring of life.
Hail you who guard our garth and our temples,
Hearthfire´s warders, Wise-Women all.
Your passion and patience now we shall honor.
Pass on the cup, and drink of their life.
Hail to you Mothers, mortal and breathing,
Hail to you Mothers, immortal, divine.
Hail to you, Disir of our kinfolk,
Hail to your womb, the wellspring of life.

On this night, light a candle to the mothers who have borne and carried you, to the mothers who have held you in comfort and in fear. To the mothers that paved the roadway that you walked on. It is a realization of mine, as I become older, that a mother is not impervious to death. Having lost my mom, a few years ago, the sting of this event has left its mark deep in my heart. It is still very difficult to live with the loss. On this night, regardless of the mother we have or had or wish we had, somewhere in our vast line there is a mother that is there for us. Sometimes this is not the mother we expect, but it is someone who appears like a mother to us in our times of need. A mother need not be of flesh and blood, they can be a friend, they can be a dad, or granddad or aunt, etc. This night is about honoring the motherly figures that are around us because they provide the bricks of our DNA that we either use to build us or we remove and replace to be a stronger foundation. Whatever way you choose to honor the past, take time to remember who paved the road for you, and light your home with lights in honor of the mothers.
