The Disney Me
Ok, I can’t lie. I am a HUGE Disney fan. In fact, it probably is for me a borderline obsession. It began with the first film I ever watched, The 1001 Dalmatians, and continued through all the Disneyverse to Moana. I was fixed, every Sunday, for The World of Walt Disney as films like The Apple Dumpling Gang and Herbie Rides Again played on the screen. I don’t think there are many films that I have not seen from Disney, even ones before my time, were ones that I watched with my family as those were generally the only film allowed in my ultra-religious upbringing. I am a child born in the 1970’s and still for me my notables in the film are ones made long before the twinkle of my making came into view. I watched The Monkey Uncle, The Watcher in the Woods, Candelshoe, and more. I have to say that I really love them despite the fact that its history has not always been that ‘positive’ in terms of appropriation and also racism. But, I can’t help it. Something takes over me when I am strolling through Disneyland, and what comes out of me is just this mystically reformed, totally insane fan, dressed in as much Disney as I can, and I just want to live there.
